The detached
A doctor filmed their consultations. When he played it back, he was shocked by what he saw himself doing. He was surprised at how little engagement he gave his patients. He saw himself looking down at his notes most of the time, rarely giving his patients much more than an occasional quick glance. Upon seeing himself in action he made massive improvements to his approach from then on. Many of us are oblivious to how poorly we communicate. There are not many of us who will acknowledge our faults and people around us are reluctant to point them out.
In group conversations we can make people feel included by looking at everyone in turn whilst we speak, maybe a wink to some to acknowledge their presence.
